The ACLU Says:
The Cross Must Go, But the Pagan goddess Can Stay
In a landmark decision, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors agreed with the ACLU that the tiny cross of Christ, honoring the California Missions, should be removed from their county seal.
The fact that that same seal was boldly emblazoned in its center with the standing golden statue of the goddess Pomona did not seem to bother either the LA County Board of Supervisors or the ACLU. Pagan gods and goddesses are acceptable. Only the cross is forbidden since it might bring to mind Christ's sacrifice. When this paradox was brought to the Board's attention, both images were removed. The image of the pagan goddess was replaced by an indian maiden.
When the Romans destroyed the Jewish temple in Jerusalem, they erected on its ashes a temple to the Greeco-Roman god Zeus in its place. Many at the time considered this the fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy concerning the "abomnible desecration" of the holy place. In Old Testament times it would have been. When Antiochus Epiphanes desecrated the temple altar with paganism in 167 B.C., it created the archetype for the terrible desecration prophecy.
Jesus affirmed Daniel's prophecy and predicted that it would be repeated in the last days as a sign to the world that the end had come. The fact that the pagan statue did not end the world when the Romans erected it on the Temple Mount was because Jesus, not a Jewish building in Jerusalem, is the true temple. Apostasy against Christ in Babylon is the true desecration that will end the world.
When Constantine accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, he did not create a theocracy in Christ, but, instead, gave Him the seat of honor at the royal table of Babylon:
"Evil-merodach, king of Babylon, in the year he came to the throne, pardoned Jehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison. He treated him kindly and allotted him a seat above those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. And his upkeep was permanently insured by the king of Babylon for the rest of his life, day after day until his dying day." (Jer.52:31-34).
Christ has, from that day, been similarly honored by all the governments of the western world, a span of almost 2000 years. Those honors began to collapse in the 19th century; and virtually disappeared during the 20th century as the nations all changed their minds and began to discard the God they had formerly honored.
The Psalms tell us the royal power of all the governments of the world comes from God. Those who honor Him will be honored and protected by God, but those who reject Him will operate outside His protection.
"If the Lord had not been on our side let Israel repeat it If the Lord had not been on our side when they attacked us, they would have swallowed us alive and burnt us to death in their rage. the waters would have closed over us, the torrent have swept us away, either would have drowned us in their turbulent waves. (Ps.124:1-8).
"Listen then, kings, and understand; rulers of remotest lands, take warning; hear this, you who have thousands under your rule, who boast of your hordes of subjects. For power is a gift to you from the Lord, soveriegnty is from the Most High; he himself will probe your acts and scrutinize your intentions. If, as administrators of his kingdom, you have not governed justly nor observed the law, nor behaved as God would have you behave, he will fall on you swiftly and terribly. Ruthless judgment is reserved for the high and mighty; the lowly will be compassionately pardoned, the mighty will be mightly punished." (Wis. 6:1-8).
Since 1963 when the U.S. Supreme Court began dismantling Christ's seat of honor at the royal table of the American government, it's officials have stripped almost every mention of His name or His Father's name, and every symbol that might call them to mind, from the nation's schools and public squares. Even prayer is forbidden in those places.
But the decision in Los Angeles went further. The ACLU mounted a frontal assault on an obscure cross honoring the history of the California Missions, but was unconcerned with the large pagan goddess that emblazoned the seal's central panel. The ACLU's true focus and intent could not have been more clear.
