A Higher Standard of Behavior

Jesus said the behavior God expects from the people is completely different than what their scriptures or teachers had been leading them to believe. The way of the Hebrew ancestors, he warned, is wrong.

While God overlooked such actions in the past because men did not know better, Jesus revealed that He would not tolerate at the final Judgement the kind of 'eye for an eye' and 'tooth for a tooth' conduct practiced by the ancient Israelites during their past history.

"God overlooked that sort of thing when men were ignorant, but now he is telling everyone everywhere that they must repent, because he has fixed a day when the whole world will be judged, and judged in righteousness and he has appointed a man to be the judge. And God has publicly proved this by raising this man from the dead."
(Acts 17:30-31).
