Gog and Magog

In the prophecies of Ezekiel there is a lengthy description of the Great Rebel of the End the man Paul has called the 'Man of Perdition'. Described as the eighth head of the Beast in the Book of Revelation, Ezekiel calls him 'Gog' and his country 'Magog'. Ignoring scripture a few scholars interpret this in reverse, saying the country is Gog and the wicked prince who rules it is 'Magog'. Either way, it comes out the same, two symbolic names riveted in the kodachrome of the tribulation.

The Book of Revelation addresses these names in terms of the millenium.

"When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive all the nations in the four quarters of the earth Gog and Magog, and mobilise them for war." (Rev. 20:7).

No one can deny this mobilization today. This past century has seen the entire world mobilize for war, not once, but three times. Never before in history has there been so much war on such an immense scale. More unnerving, John's words show that we have seen only the beginning of what is predicted to come.

Whipped to a frenzy by the seductive treachery of this deceitful "Gog", Satan's armies will measure as many as the sands of the sea; they will come swarming over the entire country and besiege the camp of the saints, which is the city that God loves.

But fire will come down on them from heaven and consume them. Then the devil, who misled them, will be thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are, and their torture will not stop, day or night, forever and ever. See Rev. 20:10.

The Book of Revelation makes one thing certain. Gog and Magog cannot appear until after the end of the "thousand years" (Rev. 20:7).

Jesus said that when these days appear, there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars. They will also come in association with the "third day", the millenium our world entered on January 1, 2001. In August of 2003, the planet Mars, named by the ancients for the world's god of war, made its closest pass to earth in 60,000 years. Is this one of the signs Jesus predicted in the skies that herald the days of the End? How could it not be?

The prophecies of Ezekiel, Daniel and Revelation leave little doubt that "Gog" is the world's prince of war.

Gog will head the Ten Nation Confederacy of the last days. Ezekiel's allegorical names for countries associated with or a part of this confederacy include Magog, Rosh, Meshech, Tubal, Persia, Cush and Put along many others. He describes Gog as the prince of Meshech and Tubal The Greek scriptures include the symbolic name"Rosh" among these other two, bringing to number to three. These three countries correspond with the prophecy of Daniel which foresees the Beast 'pulling out the horns of three of the ten nations to form his own country, "Magog".

"Magog", then, would represent a merger of nations formed around the microscopic focus of the beast's lowly beginnings.

Soon afterword, the Beast will gain control of the entire eastern confederacy and mobilize it for world war. This will plunge the world into a military conflict described by John as the 'second battle of the end'. The Rebel will attack Jerusalem on more than one occasion, and he will confront with massive forces the huge western nation that successfully blocked his predecessor from earlier taking control of the world (see Daniel).

The world will be set on fire by this madman, and, for the most part, burn to the ground.

John's Book of Revelation foresees Gog rising to power after Satan is released from his thousand-year captivity in the Abyss.

"When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive all the nations in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, and mobilize them for war. His armies will be as many as the sands of the sea; they will come swarming over the entire country and besiege the camp of the saints, which is the city that God loves." (Rv.20:7-9).

If his coming is scheduled in our time, the thousand-years must be ending now. This is something we have foreseen and have written about. Certainly no one can deny the kind of mobilization today that scripture attributes to him. This century has seen the entire world gear for war on a scale unheard of in all of human history. Not once, but three times in less than 100 years. Never before has there been so much war on such a scale. And John's words show that we have seen only the beginning of what is predicted to come.

"But fire will come down on them from heaven and consume them. Then the devil, who misled them, will be thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are, and their torture will not stop, day or night, forever and ever." See Rev. 20:10.
