The Great Revolt
Paul predicted that Christianity would rule the earth. He also predicted that a day would come when that rule would erode and pass away. The processes of that erosion he called 'the Great Revolt' (2 Thes.2:3).
"It cannot happen until the Great Revolt has taken place and the Rebel, the Lost One, has appeared. This is the Enemy, the one who claims to be so much greater than all that men call 'god', so much greater than anything that is worshipped, that he enthrones himself in God's sanctuary and claims that he is God." (2 Thess.2:3-4).
The Revolt that precedes the coming of this Rebel will tear the people away from their faith in Christ. It is that apostasy which precipitates and guarantees the appearance of the beast who ends the world. Paul wrote,
"The reason why God is sending a power to delude them and make them believe what is untrue is to condemn all who refused to believe in the truth and chose wickedness instead." (2 Thes.11-12).
Paul explained that the seeds of that rebellion were already in existance in his own time but that they were then underneath the surface, stirring hidden eddys, and awaiting the moment when they should erupt to the surface.
In our day, that fateful scenario has begun.
The world's bold and open attack on Christianity is evident all around us. We are watching Satan's mortal wound heal.
